A Delight for the Senses

Founded around 307 BC, Epicureanism is a philosophy based upon the teachings of the ancient Greek philosopher Epicurus. Epicurus believed in the doctrine that pleasure or happiness is the chief good.

To attain such pleasure, Epicurus believed one should:

  • live modestly

  • gain knowledge of the workings of the world

  • limit one's desires.

This would lead a person to a state of tranquility (ataraxia) and freedom from fear and anxiety, as well as, an absence of bodily pain (aponia).

While some misinterpret Epicureanism as “hedonism” or “gluttony,” it ultimately means devotion to pleasure, comfort, and high living, with a positive focus on friendship.

Epicurean Explorers supports this philosophy of finding joy and pleasure through gaining knowledge, exploring the world, friendship and a delight in fine wines and culinary experiences. We aim to provide opportunities that will support your own journey in finding your tranquility.
